All About BMW Motorcycle Wheel Lugs

The lugs on the wheels of your BMW motorcycle may not seem like they're very important, but without them, your bike would be unrideable. That's because they're responsible for keeping the wheel securely connected to the wheel hub and the bike's frame.

Of course, you may refer to your wheel lugs by a different name, such as lug nuts or wheel nuts. No matter what you call them, they work the same way. (And whether you're looking to replace the wheel lugs on your motorcycle or upgrade them, the job's fairly straightforward to do yourself.) Typically, they have either a tapered or rounded end that simply threads onto a stud to secure the wheel into place, and the lugs themselves are kept safely in place by other wheel accessories like wheel center caps. Some lugs may even require a special key to remove, to help prevent rim theft. Those are called wheel locks, though they're more commonly found on cars and trucks than motorcycles.

Need help with an install? Feel free to get in touch with a BMW motorcycle service center. Just be sure to use OEM wheel lugs for the job.

Why Not Buy Aftermarket Wheel Lugs?

Unlike OEM, they won't be genuine BMW. That means they may not be of the quality you're used to, and they may not even fit or work quite right the first time. Some off-brand wheel lugs may even void the factory warranty your bike has, making you responsible for future repairs otherwise covered. OEM lugs are your best bet for quality, fitment, function, and warranty compatibility.
